CEO NEWS & NOTES

Dr. Elaine Ruiz Lopez

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Congratulations to our Graduating Class of 2014! These fine Scholars are almost at the finish line steadily completing their graduation requirements. More than 70% of our Scholars have already received numerous college acceptance letters from CUNY and SUNY as well as from private colleges and universities throughout New York State and out of state.

Happy Chinese New Year of the Horse! Our school community hosted our 6th Annual Chinese New Year Luncheon celebrating the Chinese New Year of the Horse. The cuisine was fit for an Emperor. I would like to especially thank Ms. Fan who coordinated the beautiful art work and decorations. During the luncheon, all members of our staff, were presented with the traditional envelopes containing Chinese coins to reflect prosperity and Chinese blessings for good fortune. Ms. Fan also prepared a mini workshop in Mandarin and provided an explanation of the Chinese artwork made by our 9th grade students.

My Weekly Quote...

“In the Upcoming Year of the Horse, be attentive to the needs of others and quick to react with compassion for those who are troubled or are unable to protect themselves. Be powerful in pursuing your goals. Be modest and simple. Take time to reflect, show affection and be involved with family, reconnect with friends and be ready to help in a spirit of cooperation”. - Author Unknown

"One Dollar and a Dream"

ILCHS StudentsAt the start of the 2nd Quarter, we started a special process to engage our 9th and 10th Grade Scholars in a unique incentive. The "One Dollar and a Dream" project is designed to encourage the pursuit of dreams.  Every student received a $1.00 bill as a symbol of an investment in exchange for writing down the “Dreams” that they each wish to pursue. In return for this investment, students made a commitment to exceed expectations in the 3rd Quarter and to continually embody the principles of Leadership and Character as a bridge toward their accomplishments. In the 3rd Quarter, we look forward to unveiling the names of the Scholars who will receive a special reward for the investment made.
