Dear Parents:
For those of you who just started your parent partnership with our charter high school, I wanted to extend an official “Welcome” to your family and your child. For families who have returned, congratulations! Your son or daughter’s graduation date is getting closer and plans and decisions for college are on the horizon. Every new academic year, I am so excited for the hundreds of scholars and their families whose lives will be transformed through the power of education.
It is our goal to provide a high quality academically rigorous college prep education for all of our scholars. I have outlined below some highlights of upcoming school wide events and opportunities that we will be offering to our scholars at every grade level.
First, our very first Curriculum Night for the 9th grade has been scheduled for Thursday October 6th @ 5:30 PM-6:30 PM, 10th grade Tuesday October 11th @5:30 PM-6:30 PM and 11th & 12th grade Thursday October 13th @ 5:30 PM-6:30 PM. This is a perfect opportunity to meet you son/daughter’s instructors for the grades.
All of our students are entitled to 1 hour of Academic Tutoring per week in any content area that they need assistance with. It is anticipated to begin by Monday, October 11th. A tutoring schedule will be provided on or before Curriculum Night.
This academic year, we will be piloting a special collaboration with Fit 4 Life, a fitness organization that has been engaged to promote movement and an alternative form and approach to health, wellness and fitness to our freshman. This fitness program for the 9th Grade will start on a rotating basis twice weekly and will begin with an orientation for students on Tuesday 9/20/16. All parents of 9th graders will soon receive more information to include a consent to participate form and requirements for participation. We hope to move up this program through the grades over a period of three years. More information to come shortly.
We will continue our ongoing partnership with Korea Tae Kwon Do. Our Juniors and Seniors will begin their participation in Tae Kwon Do classes for credit twice per week. Our scholars will be required to wear TKD uniforms and to provide parental consent forms before participation. We are grateful to KTKD for facilitating donations from the Korean Consulate, for brand new uniforms for our participating scholars for the 5th consecutive year. It is anticipated that the start date for this program will be September 27th.
Finally, we are currently in the process of researching opportunities for our sophomores to participate after school activities that may include robotics, a book club and dance & movement classes.
Our scholars will be able to participate in these school based activities at no payment or costs to the families. However our school is making a significant financial investment to purchase these programs.
As you know we do not receive additional funds from the city or the state for these types of programs. I would like to take this as an opportunity to request that you consider making an Annual Donation of at least $25.00 to $50.00 to assist our charter school with its finances to start providing quality programs that will balance and enhance your child’s education. Your Tax deductible contribution can be made payable by check or Money Orders can be made payable to your child’s charter school International Leadership Charter High School.
I look forward to seeing you at our first schoolwide activity and thank you for choosing our charter school.
Sincerely,
Dr. Elaine Ruiz Lopez
