Now Hiring: Special Education and All High School Content Areas Teachers

The International Leadership Charter School (ILCS) is a college-preparatory high school dedicated to empowering tomorrow’s leaders. The International Leadership Charter School, Inc. (ILCS) is a tuition-free high school located in the Kingsbridge Heights section of the Bronx (near 230th and Broadway). ILCS will implement an academically rigorous Regents and college-preparatory curriculum that elevates students’ intellectual capacity, and provides a superior high school education.

Our ultimate goal is to expand knowledge of international studies, including the social, economic and political issues that affect our daily lives, and to cultivate leadership skills with a commitment to community development, social action and participation in the global economy. Our staff and faculty are dedicated to empowering the leaders of tomorrow using the best practices in education.

Our educational goals will, without exception, strive to provide a program of study that is designed to exceed New York State performance standards with clear data-driven measures of progress

The features of our educational program include:

• College preparation
• Highly-qualified school leadership and certified teachers
• Accelerated math and science instruction
• Focus on international studies and participation in the Model United Nations program
• Exposure to two foreign languages: Spanish and Mandarin
• An extended school day and school year* (7:30- 4:30/ September- July)
• Tutoring for students who require additional instructional support and enrichment
• Instructional support in all of the core subject areas for ESL students
• Full coordination of services for students with special needs

We are currently conducting a search for outstanding teacher candidates for employment starting in September of 2008. Teachers will be responsible for the instructional delivery of all standards-based instruction in accordance to ILCS Charter Agreement to increase student achievement. Teachers will report to the CEO. Teacher positions are available in the areas of Science, and Special Education.

Specifically Teachers will:

• Teach the curriculum as aligned with New York State performance standards
• Create a classroom environment conducive to optimizing teaching and learning
• Manage classrooms, collect and analyze student performance data
• Maintain constructive relationships with administration, peers, staff, parents and students
• Actively seek and participate in professional development activities and utilize community resources to improve or support instruction
• Serve as advisor to a small group of students

Qualifications:

• The minimum qualifications for this position are a Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of high school teaching experience preferred, completion or enrollment in a graduate education program of study, demonstrated mastery of subject area to be taught.
• In addition, ILCS teachers must be willing and open to participating in required ongoing professional development activities to strengthen the school’s culture and improve instruction. Candidates must be proficient in the English language.
• Bilingual Spanish is preferred for teachers who are applying to teach in the area of Science.
