The funding we receive is primarily derived from a formula that the City of New York provides to Chancellor authorized charter schools. For every child attending our school, we receive only eighty percent (80%) of the Per Pupil Allocation (PPA) that NYCDOE schools receive. What this means, is that we are expected to yield higher results in student achievement with twenty percent (20%) less that what most public schools in The Bronx receive. ILCS receives approxiamately $11,000.00 per student in funding from the City of New York as compared to NYC public schools who are receiving approximately $15,000.00 per student. This allocation had to cover all operational expenses to maintain all academic, youth development, targeted support and enrichment programs. In order to meet and exceed academic expectations d the New York State standards we are providing our student with and extended day and extended year which includes a Saturday Academy in order p prepare students for the rigor of the Regents and college preparation. The actual cost of providing our students with a hight quality education ina small personalized environment at ILCS is $20,000.00 per student. Our school's founder raised the additional twenty percent (20%) in the school's first year of operation from various foundations and states grants. We wrote numerous proposals and awarded a total of approximately 1 million dollars in additional funding that was spread over the first three years of the schools operations. This includes $400,000.00 from the National Council of La Raza, $80,000.00 from the NYC Charter Center for Excellence and $525,000.00 from the Charter School Program grant from the New York State Education Department. This additional funding provided support for professional development, a pre-service academy for teachers, smart-board technology, a Saturday Academy to accelerate learning and resources for the classroom.
