The students and staff of International Leadership Charter School (ILCS) are committed to the principle of student government and acknowledge the value of granting students considerable autonomy in the governance of their affairs as means by which strong character is developed and nurtured. Student government promotes leadership, self-confidence, and self-reliance. It is a privilege, not a right, and teaches students important lessons regarding the proper balance of freedom, privilege, and responsibility.
In October 2007, ILCS formed our first ever Student Advisory Council (SAC). Students were able to nominate themselves and/or others to represent them during SAC meetings one a week and have their voices heard. Since its inception, SAC members have diligently coordinated, sponsored, and supported events such as the Leadership and Government Week, Day of the Roses Fundraiser, Platanos and Collard Greens Fundraiser, and the First 100 Days of School Celebration. In addition, many of our SAC members attend board meetings and help ILCS in the recruitment of potential ILCS students by addressing interested parents and students during ILCS open houses and helping to provide tours.
Currently, the council is helping to coordinate community services that will aid the student body in connecting with our community. They also have a Poetry Slam taking place very soon and are excited to be assisting in the planning of our annual Field Day at the end of the academic year.
