Dr. Richard IzquierdoDr. Richard Izquierdo: Dr. Richard Izquierdo, affectionately known as "Doc", was born in East Harlem in 1929. “Doc” graduated from Long Island University and the University of Madrid Medical School and the University of Lausanne Medical School in Switzerland where he graduated in 1957. In 1967, “Doc” founded the San Juan Health Center and later founded the Urban Health Plan which serves over 33,000 each year, both of these institutions are in the Bronx. He later founded the "El Nuevo San Juan", a state-of-the-art health center which has over 80 health care providers, 450 employees and serves 186,000 patients each year.  “Doc” has been awarded the Surgeon General’s Medallion. “Doc” also founded Multi Medic Physician Services, PC, which is where he has been practicing medicine for close to 20 years. Today “Doc” is working to found a NYC Charter School for Health and Science careers 6th grade thru 12th grade in the South Bronx. Dr. Richard Izquierdo is a hero of the Bronx community and a Legend in His Own Time.

Mr. Johnny Color
Mr. Johnny Colón:  Johnny Colón was born in New York City’s El Barrio into a Puerto Rican musical family. As a recording artist and band leader, Johnny has recorded and released numerous records and CDs.  In 1966, Cotique records released “Bugaloo Blues,” which became a classic in the Latin field, selling over 3,000,000 copies worldwide. He founded the East Harlem Music School in 1972.  The school has provided musical instruction to over 20,000 students in a diverse array of instruments including piano, bass, saxophone, conga and timbales, and voice. Over the years, the school has produced six orchestras. Johnny is the recipient of many awards and honors including the Manhattan Borough President’s Arts in Excellence Award for music (1988), the Committee for Adoptable Children, the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (1993) and the Ellen Lurie Award of the Community Service Society (1993).
